Whiskey for Mom

We narrowed down the Breckenridge library of spirits to these 4 award-winners and added a hand-crafted cocktail for each spirit so mom can kick back and sip on the finest. Happy Mother’s Day, from your friends in booze.

 

1. PX SHERRY CASK FINISH + BRECKENRIDGE 1859’R

From the Andalusia province of Spain, a luscious dessert wine is produced from the shriveled raisins of the Pedro Ximenez (PX) grape. This highly viscous, syrupy, wine is aged in ancient solera barrels for decades before release. Breckenridge Distillery acquired a selection of retired PX barrels from a solera hundreds of years old and filled them with their rich and spicy Bourbon Whiskey. Left to bask in these ripe, fruity vessels, their Whiskey emerged with complex layers of fig compote, orange marmalade, and licorice to complement the sweet oak and vanilla character of their world-renowned Bourbon Whiskey.

Breckenridge 1869’r

  • 2 oz Breckenridge PX Sherry Cask Finish (BUY NOW >)
  • 3/4 oz lemon juice
  • 1/2 oz honey simple*
  • 1/2 oz Chateau Laribotte Sauternes
  • Top with Prosecco 

Shake top 3 ingredients with ice. Strain up, add Chateau Laribotte and Prosecco. Finally, garnish with gold mint.

*Honey Simple Syrup: over low-med heat add 1 cup water, 4 oz honey, 4 oz sugar. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Let cool, bottle and refrigerate. 

 

2. BRECKENRIDGE BOURBON WHISKEY

Breckenridge Distillery is most widely known for their blended bourbon whiskey, a high-rye mash American-style whiskey.  Breckenridge Bourbon is one of the most highly awarded craft bourbons in the market and for good reason. Their award-winning, high-rye Bourbon Whiskey is aged for a minimum of three years, in charred, new American oak barrels, and blended to reveal the unique qualities of the Bourbon Whiskey. Deep, honey-amber hue with pronounced aromas of butterscotch, candied orange and apple; dry cacao and brown sugar envelop the tongue as the spirit lingers with notes of vanilla and white pepper.

Primmed & Purple

  • Breckenridge Bourbon Whiskey (BUY NOW >)
  • 1 oz pineapple, blackberry, balsamic syrup*
  • 3/4 oz lemon juice
  • 1 egg white

Vigorously shake all ingredients with no ice for 30 seconds. Add a large cube and shake for 30 seconds. Double strain over ube (purple yam) ice.* Finally, garnish with blackberries.

*Pineapple, blackberry, balsamic simple syrup: over low-med heat, add 1 cup pineapple juice, 6 oz sugar, and 1 tbsp blackberry balsamic. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Let cool, bottle and refrigerate.

*Ube ice: mix 1 tbsp of ube extract with water. Place in freezer in a secure tilted glass position.

Mom’s Night Out

  • Breckenridge Bourbon Whiskey (BUY NOW >)
  • 1 oz Lillet Blanc
  • .5 oz lemon juice
  • .5 oz simple syrup
  • 2 oz champagne
  • 3 cucumber wheels

Muddle, then shake over ice. Top off with champagne, roll, and then strain into a coupe glass. Fianlly, garnish with a cucumber wheel.

 

3. PORT CASK FINISH WHISKEY + MAMA’S OLD FASHIONED

Thanks to the superior Tawny Port casks, each batch flaunts a unique expression.

 

Mama’s Old Fashioned

  • 2 1/2 oz Breckenridge Port Cask Finish (BUY NOW >)
  • 1/2 oz Port wine syrup*
  • 2 dashes Fee Brothers Barrel-Aged Whiskey Bitters 

Stir ingredients with ice. Strain and serve over dehydrated flower cube. Finally, garnish with a Luxardo cherry and a healthy zest of orange.

*Port Wine Simple Syrup: over low to medium heat add 1 cup port red wine and 6 oz raw sugar. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Let cool, bottle and refrigerate

 

4. RUM CASK FINISH WHISKEY + MAY THE ORCHARD BE WITH YOU

Their award-winning Breckenridge Bourbon soaks up the charm of our own aged Colorado Rum casks, creating an unstoppable wave of flavor. Candied apple and cinnamon enfold, as dark chocolate and cacao follow. Lingering allspice captivates the senses, gratifying in just one sip, but mysterious enough to leave you wanting another.

  • 1-1/2 oz Breckenridge Rum Cask Finish (BUY NOW >)
  • 2 oz apple and pear allspice mix*
  • 1 oz lemon juice
    Shake with ice and garnish with an apple chip.

*Apple and pear allspice mix: over medium heat add 8 oz sugar, 16 oz apple cider, 16 oz pear juice, 2 oz muddled allspice berries, 4 oz vanilla bean paste, 4 oz calvados. Stir to combine and let simmer until sugar is dissolved. Do Not Boil. Strain and let cool.
